Razer’s Wolverine V2 Chroma is a sleek, customizable cable controller

A year after the launch of Razer’s $ 100 Wolverine V2 Xbox controller, today the company announced a $ 150 feature-packed version called Wolverine V2 Chroma. The new name is a gift to one of the additions: a strip of Chroma RGB lighting near each of the two handles that can be programmed to your liking through its complementary accessory app on an Xbox or PC.

This controller actually replaces the Wolverine Ultimate that was released in late 2017. Like the previous controller, the Wolverine V2 Chroma has interchangeable thumbs like the ones included with the Xbox Elite and Scuf’s Instinct controllers; six remappable macro buttons (including four paddles on the back) that can be customized.

The analog stick covers can be changed, although the d-pad is not.

There are some improvements over its predecessor. For example, the LED implementation of Wolverine V2 Chroma definitely looks better, and I prefer its shape and overall design than the previous model. You also get points for using USB-C instead of the Ultimate’s Micro USB port and for having the same offer of buttons as Microsoft’s latest Xbox controller.

But the latest driver is not superior in any case. The old Wolverine Ultimate offers a little more customization at a lower price (currently $ 129.99). That is, you can change your D-pad. In addition, the Ultimate does not require software to reassign the button, but allows you to do so directly from the driver. It’s not a chord break, but you may prefer this solution rather than downloading software.

The Wolverine V2 Chroma has six macro buttons in total, which can be programmed through the Razer accessory app for Windows 10 and Xbox.

That said, this is a much smaller upgrade than Wolverine V2, although there is enough new and worth it that might interest you. On the other hand, you may be satisfied with the purchase or upload to the old Wolverine Ultimate.
