A supply-chain report last month raised the possibility that next year’s flagship iPhones will always be on display, and the follow-up report says the same screen technology could drive the promotion.
Both reports point to LG’s offering identical LED panels for the iPhone currently used in the Apple Watch Series 5
Last month’s report explained that LG will make LDBO screens for next year’s Pro model iPhones.
LG Display’s Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) Panel Dedicated to Apple Extends Product Rate […] LG Display plans to place low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPDO) in thin-film transistors (TFTs) […]
Apple plans to use LTPO TFT for high-end iPhone models that will be introduced next year. It has so far used the low temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) TFD process. The oxide TFT process is added as LPTO TFT.
LTPO panels allow variable renewal rates. Reducing the update rate to the lowest possible rate means that it uses the least amount of power, which is always on display in the Apple Watch Series 5.
At the other end of the spectrum, the ultra-responsive and smooth graphics update rate can be increased to 120 Hz, which is today’s report TheElec He says we can expect.
Next year’s OLED panel used on the iPhone 13 will be technically sophisticated compared to the one used on the iPhone 12.
Two of the four models to be introduced next year will use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPDO) thin-film transistors (TFTs). The screens require LPDO technology to reach a 120 Hz refresh rate. All four models use on-cell touch screens.
The 120 Hz display – branded as the Apple Promotion – is what sets the iPod Pro models apart from the iPod Air.
However, two caveats. First of all, this is not the first time we have heard rumors about a promotion display on the iPhone – the same rumors were spread about the iPhone 12 Pro, of course they are false. Second, it raises an LPDO display Possibility Always on display, this does not mean that Apple will choose to add the feature. The Apple Watch Series 4 also has an LTPO screen, but the company chose not to always run the display for that.
