Reacting to Javy Baez’s controversial message to Mets fans

Two thumbs down.

Javy Baez stayed real with the media after the Mets victory on Sunday. He basically told Mets fans to stop practicing their own players and that boos were what led to the “thumbs up” celebration that he, Francisco Lindor and Kevin Pillar have seen doing after receiving hits. . There have been so few of these successes that you may not have even noticed. If it was thumbs down for attacks, you would see him several times each night.

Baez is not wrong when he says fans should not boo their own players. While it’s a smaller portion of fans doing the boos, not a larger portion. The problem is that fans who pay to be there can do whatever they want. Baez has been Met for a few weeks and the team had a pathetic month of August that took them from four games in the Northeast League to 7.5 games back. The new ownership hasn’t changed much, and the franchise hasn’t won a World Series in 35 years. This is a frustrated fan base.

We have a lot to say about it in the last episode of the “Amazin’ But True ”podcast with me and former Met Nelson Figueroa, with a talk with Mike Puma of The Post.

Amazin ‘But True Podcast with Jake and Figgie:

  • BAEZ REACTION: This is a terrible aspect for Baez, especially after the Mets finally win a series. You don’t want the fans to turn on you, and now that’s over. The way to fix that would be to have a September to remember and help the Mets get to the playoffs, which will be tremendously difficult with the deficit they face. You need thick skin to play in New York and maybe he doesn’t have it. It’s hard to see the situation in which Mets re-signs Baez. It seems like everything is going wrong with the Mets and their fans. Figgie compares to the other side when the Yankees made the thumbs down thing scream and it worked.
  • COHEN SANDY / TWEET STATEMENT: Sandy’s statement tries to save face for fans to show up. The Mets must hold the boys accountable. Steve Cohen needs to clean the house after the season. Replace Sandy, replace Luis Rojas, replace Zack Scott and make some important changes to the roster.
  • FAN VOICEMAILS: Two fans shout to react to the latest Mets saga.

  • SURPRISE: Everyone in the post-game was surprised that Baez said what he was doing. The Mets will have to play better to get rid of the boos. He thinks Sandy did the right thing.
  • CHANGES: Puma believes there will be significant changes this offseason.
  • WITHOUT LEADER: Who is the veteran Mets leader? They really don’t have any.
