WEST READING, Pa. – Thousands remain hospitalized with COVID-19 across Pennsylvania while the Pfizer vaccine is targeted at front-line workers in Berks County and the Modern Vaccine is on deck.
“With the approval now of the emergency use permit for the Modern vaccine over the weekend, we have been assigned 198,000 Modern vaccines and these doses will start arriving this week,” Dr. Rachel said. Levine, secretary of state for health.
In addition, the Pfizer vaccine is about to go beyond the hospital walls in the area and start helping those at high risk in residences.
“Starting next week,” Levine said, “the federal partnership with CVS and Walgreens will begin offering on-site COVID-19 vaccination services for residents and staff at specialized nursing centers across the state.”
Levine said that even with the vaccine, the virus can still be spread and said that until the majority of the population is properly vaccinated, mitigation efforts need to be maintained.
“There’s a light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. “We have two safe and effective vaccines that are being rolled out as we speak. Right now, health care workers in Pennsylvania are getting the vaccine.”
And Levine again warned people about the meeting during the holidays.
“We’re approaching Christmas and then New Year’s Eve, and it’s so important that people continue the mitigation measures I just talked about to try to prevent a new wave of hospitalization,” Levine explained.
