Red Sox sweep Orioles behind 3 HR from JD

BALTIMORE – JD Martinez came off the COVID-19 roster and connected 3 home runs to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 14-9 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday and a six-game winning streak.

In the ninth inning, Martinez had a chance to tie the record for four homers, but was struck out. He is the last on the list of 18 Major League players who has connected four home runs in a game, which he achieved in September 2017 with Arizona.

Martinez, 33, returned to the lineup a day after being included in the COVID-19 list for cold symptoms. He passed the necessary tests and beat 6-4, towing four runs and scoring four more.

It was the fourth time Martinez has contributed four homers in a duel. A year after beating 213, with seven homers in 54 games in the season shortened by the pandemic, averaged 472 (36-17), with five toddlers and 16 driven in eight duels.

Martinez connected solitary home runs in the third, sixth and eighth innings. The three-time All-Star also towed a career with a single.

For the Red Sox, the Puerto Ricans Enrique Hernández 5-2, with two scored and one driven; and Christian Vázquez 5-1, with a score. Mexican Alex Botxí 5-2, with two scored-three towed. Dominicans Rafael Devers 5-2, with two scored — five towed; and Frenchy Be 4-1, with one scored. The Venezuelan Marwin González 4-0, with a score.

For the Orioles, Dominicans Maikel Franco 4-2, with a four-point drive; and Pedro Severino 3-0. Venezuelans Freddy Galvis 1-1; and Anthony Santander 1-0. The Mexican Ramón Uries 1-0, with a score.
