The Reds have claimed veteran fielder Asdrúbal Cabrera from the D-backs waivers list, Arizona’s ninth announced Friday.
Cabrera, 35, could have a chance to play for another contender after leaving a D-backs basement team. The Venezuelan was part of a 2019 Nationals that won the World Series, as he played 38 regular-season games for those in the capital after Texas terminated him. Cabrera hit 18 homers that campaign, including six for Washington, before hitting .286 with three tows against the Stars in the Fall Classic.
Cabrera played 90 games for the 2021 D-backs, in which he had a 244/324/392 line with seven home runs and saw action mainly as a forward.
