Remains of Marines who died in the Kabul airport blast returned home on 9/11

The remains of a U.S. sailor who died in an attack on Afghanistan International Airport late last month returned home on the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Sergeant. Sergeant. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, 25, was one of them 13 members of the American service who died on August 26 when a suicide bomber struck at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport.

The attack was believed to have been carried out by ISIS-K.

Pichardo’s remains returned to Massachusetts on Saturday, according to CBS Boston.

People roamed the roads of Pichardo’s hometown of Lawrence, Massachusetts, as a procession vehicle made its way through the city, the media reported.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker (R), Boston Mayor Kim Janey (D), and Senator. Ed MarkeyEd Markey: Remains of a sailor who died in the Kabul airport explosion returned home on September 11 to vote on a law guaranteeing access to abortion in response to Texas law. (D-Mass.) He paid his respects to Pichardo’s family at the airport, according to The Associated Press.

Pichardo is one of the last members of the American service to fall back home after the attack, according to Reuters. He enlisted in the 5th Navy Expeditionary Brigade after graduating from high school in 2014.

According to an obituary of Farrah Funeral Home, Pichardo died while projecting women and children at the door of the Abbey.

A public visit is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14th. She will be buried in her hometown, Lawrence.

Pichardo’s return comes at a puzzling time on the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Four planes were hijacked and crashed in three U.S. locations, including New York City, the Virginia Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pa.

In general, the events killed nearly 3,000 people and led to America’s longest war in Afghanistan. The United States withdrew its final troops from Afghanistan on August 31, days after the airport attack.

Many of those who died in last month’s attack were between 20 and 25 years old, meaning they were only children when the 9/11 terrorist attacks occurred.
