Private coach John Beck, a former NFL quarterback who played with then-offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Washington, worked with Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields this offseason. Beck is still close with Shanahan and has been working with North Dakota state quarterback Trey Lance for the past few weeks.
This is no coincidence.
Fields and Lance are among the most likely prospects to be selected No. 3 overall by the San Francisco 49ers. ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports that Lance has been working with Beck at the request of the Niners.
San Francisco provided Beck with a list of exercises they wanted to see from Lance, which means they were heavily involved in planning Monday’s workout.
🧵 I’m told the 49ers are extremely involved in Trey Lance’s training scheduled for Monday. Lance, who works with QB coach Quincy Avery, spent the last few weeks working with QB coach John Beck. Kyle Shanahan coached Beck in Washington a decade ago and is confident in his opinion.

I was told that Lance went to work with Beck at Shanahan’s request and that the Niners coaching staff gave Beck a list of exercises they wanted Lance to work on before Monday’s practice. Indeed, the 49ers designed the training and will help them manage it.

Other teams are also expected to attend on Monday, including the Atlanta Falcons.
Other teams, including the Falcons and Washington, are expected to attend by sources, but obviously Lance is in consideration for the No. 3 pick.

It should be noted, of course, that Beck also works with Justin Fields, who along with Mac Jones are also in consideration for the No. 3 pickers.

“I know how he will train the quarterbacks,” Beck recently said about Shanahan in an interview with The Athletic. “I know what he’s looking for. So I think it’s an easy extension of Kyle in terms of the eyes I have for quarterbacks.”
San Francisco’s strong involvement in planning Lance’s second professional day could indicate that the team would be really serious about the former Bison being an option for the No. 3 general election.
The 2021 NFL draft begins April 29 from Cleveland, Ohio.

Zierlein: Trey Lance is the perfect game creator for Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers

April 10, 2021
It’s been almost two weeks since NFL Media analyst Lance Zierlein released his latest drill. In it, he had the San Francisco 49ers selecting Trey Lance from the state of North Dakota with the No. 3 general election instead of Justin Fields of the state of Ohio or Mac Jones of Alabama. He doesn’t seem to have changed his mind about what head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch should do on April 29th. While Zierlein’s teammates Steve Wyche and Maurice Jones-Drew made excellent cases for Fields to be San Francisco’s choice, Zierlein maintained his choice of Lance and defended the decision during a segment of the network. NFL. “This is the guy San Francisco should be

On Wednesday, Ohio State’s Justin Fields will do a second professional workout. Five days later, Trey Lance of the state of North Dakota will participate in his second. They both try to make sure they are selected ahead of Alabama’s Mac Jones. Trevor Lawrence of Clemson is expected to be No. 1 overall. The New York Jets are expected to select BYU’s Zach Wilson at No. 2. Assuming San Francisco targets a quarterback, leaving Jones, Fields and Lance as San Francisco options at No. 3. Jones is the overwhelming favorite to be the selector if you ask members of the national media. Fans would much prefer the more athletic prospects and with a higher ceiling than Fields or Lance. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch opted to attend Jones
