McConnell’s staff told House and Senate chiefs that the $ 160 billion state and local aid marriage committee’s efforts and a temporary shield of responsibility would probably not fly with the GOP. Both issues have become a primary focus for bipartisan lawmakers trying to break the $ 908 billion compromise. Attempts to reduce a deal in a liability shield as Democrats oppose GOP concessions have proved elusive, while many Republicans reject the idea of sending money to states where Democrats feel compelled to stay. The GOP leadership’s comments on the talks are another blow to the two-party committee.
