American rapper Meek Mill received an avalanche of criticism on social media after, last week, a song was leaked in which he referred to the death of Kobe Bryant, remembered basketball star, who died in January 2020.
The track, titled ‘Don’t Worry (RIP Kobe)’, is a collaboration with fellow rapper Lil Baby.

In this song Mill says: “If I ever miss it, I’ll go out with my helicopter, it’ll be another Kobe”, Referring to the plane crash in which the basketball player died.
Later, rapper Lil Baby talks about his desire to have a child: “That’s how I can tell Kobe, if she’s a girl Gigi.”
These fragments are related to the helicopter crash that occurred on January 26, 2020, when Kobe Bryant, 41, died with his daughter Gianna (Gigi), 13, and seven other people.
According to the BBC, the song is no longer available on any social network or YouTube.

Faced with this situation, Vanessa Bryant, the athlete’s widow, wrote in an Instagram story: “I find this line extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Point.”
In addition, Vanessa said that if the rapper is a fan of Kobe, he can show his admiration in another way, as the lyrics of this song “have no respect and tact.”
For his part, Meek Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, suggested on his Twitter account that his lyrics had been misinterpreted.
He also claimed that it was becoming a “trend” to be hated from time to time.

In another post, the rapper referred to the issue and wrote that he had already apologized to Vanessa in private.
He also said it was untrue that his previous refrains were related to the controversy.
Today, today, I apologized in private and not to the public … Nothing I say on my page addressed to a viral moment of the Internet or the family of a grieving woman. If you’re interested in someone in grief, change the subject.

This scandal comes just over a month after a year has passed since the death of the basketball star and her daughter, when the helicopter they were in crashed into a hill, north of Los Angeles.
The BBC said that in early February 2020, US security researchers deduced that the pilot had probably become disoriented in the fog.
“We’re talking about spatial disorientation in which literally the pilot may not know in which direction he’s up or down, whether he’s leaning left or right,” explained Robert Sumwalt, the president. of the National Transportation Safety Board.
