Residents receive emergency alert as COVID-19 cases increase in Bexar County

SAINT ANTHONY – The Bexar County Emergency Management Office issued an emergency alert Tuesday night to urge citizens to curb the spread of COVID-19 as cases increase before the holidays.

The city of San Antonio and Bexar County reported a record number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 (1,717) minutes before the alert occurred around 7 p.m.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said increasing cases have put pressure on hospitals in the South Texas region as cases and deaths they continue to wreak havoc on jeans.

The alert urged all residents to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 by staying home, avoiding non-essential outings and wearing a mask, especially as the Christmas holidays approach.

Nirenberg said he encourages citizens to avoid behaviors and situations that spread the virus, in order to control the rise locally.

“With the increase in COVID-19 cases in our community at an alarming rate, it is crucial to maintain discipline to beat the virus,” Nirenberg said. “By avoiding behaviors and situations that spread the coronavirus during the holiday season, we will slow the spread of COVID-19 and accelerate our return to normalcy. Protect yourself and your loved ones. Keep wearing masks, keep your distance and keep the COVID-19 “at bay.

Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said the positivity and hospitalization rate continues to rise, endangering the area.

According to a statement from local officials, hospital systems in the area currently have some capacity, but “the community needs to curb the spread of the virus so that hospitals can stay up to date.”
