At least two thieves have become a nightmare for the Cross Police (LCPD). Reports indicate that they follow parcel delivery vehicles and steal the merchandise from the homes where they are delivered.
Shortly before 11 a.m. on Jan. 25, a FedEx delivery van, equipped with a dashboard camera, recorded a video of the suspicious vehicle as a passenger walked toward a house and stole a package that had just been handed over. The recipient of this package also witnessed the event.
Cross police obtained the FedEx video and identified the suspicious vehicle as a gray Hyundai Sonata. The registered owner of the vehicle was also identified. The owner told police he often lends the act to friends and acquaintances. LCPD is asking the public for help in identifying the driver of the gray Hyundai and the passenger who was seen stealing a package from Burley Ct’s 1300 block. Police believe the couple is responsible for other similar thefts.
Consumers may also consider purchasing insurance for the contents of the packages at the time the delivery is scheduled. Securing items does not prevent them from being stolen, but it helps provide refund if items are lost.
Anyone with information about their identity should call the police at (575) 526-0795. The Department of Police of the Crosses is actively carrying out a covert operation to combat piracy in the porticos. The operation already resulted in an arrest.
Note:
Elements of the Cross Police suggest following these tips to help prevent piracy on porches:
Keep track of online deliveries and try to stay home by the time packages are delivered.
Requires a signature for all home delivery packages.
When scheduling a delivery, leave instructions on where the package can be delivered.
Request electronic notification when delivery is made.
Ask a trusted friend or neighbor to receive the package at the time of delivery.
If possible, have the package delivered to you at your place of work or at a place where you know you can receive it safely.
Schedule online purchases from large retailers to be delivered to your local store, where you can arrange pickup on the sidewalk.
Have the package delivered to a FedEx or UPS store, where it can be stored for collection.
Consider installing a home security system with motion detection, such as Ring or Nest, that records video and sends an instant activity alert to your smartphone.
Be a good neighbor, be on the lookout for any suspicious activity, and call the police if they see you.
