Robinson Chirinos signs with the Yankees

the New York Yankees have reached one minor league agreement with veteran receiver and free agent Robinson Chirinos, according to distinguished journalist Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Chirinos, 36, has been a very good offensive receiver since winning a regular role with the Rangers in 2014, but came to free agency at an inopportune time this winter after a difficult split campaign between Texas and the Mets.

Chirinos only placed a 162/232/243 line with a home run and an ISO of 081 82 appearances on the plate in 82 appearances on the plate. These numbers paled in comparison to the 235/331/445 mark with 85 HR that Chirinos achieved in one thousand 953 PA between the Rangers and the Stars in the previous six seasons.

Chirinos has never been known as a major defensive asset, but if the Yankees are confident he will recover on the plate, he could put pressure on Kyle Higashioka for his backup role behind starter Gary Sanchez.

Higashioka is the personal receiver of ace Gerrit Cole, although Chirinos caught Cole in 2019 when they were members of the Stars. It will be the tenth season on MLB for the born in Punt Fix, Venezuela on June 5, 1984.
