Donald Trump Fauci: US political division by masks caused half a million deaths by COVID-19 The Bishop of Georgia says the state GOP election bill is an “attempt to suppress the black vote “Trump closer to legal danger after court ruling on tax returns he would win the Republican Party presidential primaries in 2024 if he decides to run.
Romney made the remarks in a discussion with Andrew Ross Sorkin of The New York Times on the DealBook DC Policy Project, in which he said he was “sure” that the former president would continue to “play a role” in the Republican party despite his defeat in last year’s presidential election.
“He has, by far, the biggest voice and a big impact on my party,” Romney said, referring to Trump. “I don’t know about his family members, if they intend to do that, but I hope he continues to play a role.”
Romney said that if Trump decides to run in 2024, he is sure the former president will win his party’s nomination.
“I’m sure he’ll win the nomination,” Romney said. While noting that “a lot may happen by 2024,” the Utah Republican pointed to polls that said they show Trump as a potentially strong candidate for president in the next election cycle.
“I look at polls and polls show that, among the names that ran as potential candidates in 2024, if you put President Trump among the Republicans, you win in a landslide,” he said.
Pressed on whether he would campaign against Trump if he ran in 2024, Romney, who has been vocal in his criticism of the former president in the past, said he would likely choose to support another party candidate.
“I would not vote for President Trump again. I have not voted for him in the past and I would probably be left behind by someone who I thought represented more the small wing of the Republican party that I represent,” he said.
“There is a populist movement on the right in this country and on the left. They will not leave soon. Although I believe that over time, policies that will last and really help the American family will be more successful, ”Romney said. “So I’m still, if you will, a more traditional conservative than some of my party’s populist rhetoric.”
In recent weeks, Trump has dodged questions about whether he plans to run for president again in 2024, though he has said he has seen “many big polls out there.”
“We have great support,” Trump said earlier this month. “I will not say it yet [if I’m running again], but I have great support and am seeing the numbers of the polls that are across the roof. … I’m the only guy who’s charged and my numbers are going up. “
