His. Ron JohnsonRonald (Ron) Harold Johnson The GOP attacks Biden’s relief bill GOP senator says he may have felt insecure if BLM and the antifa had stormed the Capitol Ashcroft declines replacing Blunt in Missouri (R-Wis.) He faces criticism for remarks about the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol that at least one lawmaker in his home state called “racist.”
Johnson said during an interview last week with radio host Joe Pagliarulo that he was not afraid of his safety during the siege, but it would have been if riot police were affiliated with “Black Lives Matter and Antifa.”
“Now, if the tables and Joe had been turned (this will cause me problems), the table would have been turned and President TrumpDonald TrumpPompeo: Reintroducing the deal with Iran will make the Middle East “less sure” that the DNC will be prepared to push Biden to fight in the medium term to unravel Trump’s network of immigration rules MORE he won the election and tens of thousands of Black Lives Matter and antifa, maybe he would have been a little worried, ”the senator said.
The statements criticized Democrats and others in the press and social media who argued that Johnson had basically admitted that those who stormed the Capitol, killing a police officer and seriously injuring dozens of others, were his supporters, while protesters speak out against police brutality and racism were not.
“For him to say something as racist as this is ridiculous,” Wisconsin State Sen. LaTonya Johnson (D), who is black, told the Associated Press. “It’s a totally racist comment and the insult to the injury is that he didn’t mind saying it in the position he holds because, for some reason, it’s only considered acceptable behavior for people who live and are elected in that state. “.
“Ron Johnson’s racist comments make it clear that he is on the side of violent criminals who threaten our democracy,” tweeted Sarah Godlewski (D), state treasurer.

At least five people were killed in the attack on the United States Capitol, including a Capitol Police officer. Police officials reported in the days following the siege that dozens of officers were seriously injured as a result of the attack, including one who lost an eye. Two other officers committed suicide in the days following the attack. Dozens of Washington, DC metropolitan police officers were also injured.
“I have officers who were not given helmets before the attack and have suffered head injuries,” Capitol Police union president Gus Papathanasiou told the Washington Post in January. “One officer has two cracked ribs and two broken spinal discs and another was stabbed with a metal stake, to name a few of the injuries.”
