The president of the State Election Commission (EEC), Francisco Rosado Colomer, this afternoon issued a resolution on the direct nomination voting controversy in which it defined 64 variations of names that were awarded to Edgardo Cruz Vélez, who claimed victory for the mayor of Guánica after the general election.
From the resolution it follows that both the Democratic People’s Party (PPD) like the New Progressive Party they opposed Cruz Vélez being awarded votes in which his “full” name was not written.
Due to the resolution of Rosado Colomer issued around 6:00 pm, the manual award messages that were separated to answer the ballots with ‘write-in’ votes could not work today.
We recommend:
The EEC is also waiting for Superior Judge Rebecca de León Ríos to decide on a lawsuit Ismael Rodríguez Ramos, PPD candidate, who also seeks that Cruz Vélez be awarded votes only when his “full name” appears.
Among the 64 names that Rosado Colomer decided should be awarded in favor of Cruz Vélez are ‘E. Cruz ‘,’ Ecgla Cruz ‘,’ Edgaldo ‘,’ Edgard Cruz ‘,’ Esgardo ‘and’ Wgardo Cruz ‘.
The list of names that are initially considered amounted to 73 variations, so some such as ‘Edgardo Az’, ‘El Garc.’ and ‘Edgardo Feliciano’.
The EEC press office confirmed that the evaluation of the ballots in my special months will begin tomorrow, in what will be the day of office since the count began last Friday.
The ballots with votes for direct nomination in the municipal contest were segregated pending the decision of Rosado Colomer, so the rest of the votes were already awarded.
In the results of the night of the event, the line of direct nomination obtained 2,041 votes, whereas Rodriguez Ramos received 1,962. The neo-progressive headline, Santos Seda, received 1,953 votes, according to preliminary results.
