A few weeks ago, the well-known internal member of the section ‘NateDrake’ revealed in his podcast how supposedly the games Game Boy and Game Boy Color would come to Nintendo’s Switch Online service in the near future.
Eurogamer added and noted how “other retro platforms” are likely to appear. While no system was specifically mentioned, the same expert now says that one of these “other” platforms is the Nintendo 64. This is exactly what he had to say in the last episode of his podcast:
“Eurogamer went a step further, noting that in the future additional platforms will also be added to Nintendo Switch Online. And today I would like to add, yes, that the information is accurate and one of the platforms that will arrive on the Nintendo Switch Online in the future is the revolutionary Nintendo 64 “.
While the rest of the discussion about the arrival of the N64 in the NSO is speculative for most parties, Nate seems to think that Nintendo will use this generation of games to introduce a new price level of Switch Online. In other words, you might be expected to pay more to access these titles; approximately it is estimated that members will be about 5 to 15 USD more per year.
“What I’m going to propose is that when Nintendo 64 comes to Nintendo Switch Online, it will come with a higher price level: a premium version of Nintendo Switch Online, if you will.”
“I don’t think they were trying to double the price … It would come in at $ 30 a year, $ 35 would be the ceiling, more than that, I think Nintendo would push things up.”
Additional speculation from the interior and its co-host ‘MVG’ touch on “the elephant in the room” which is Rare’s game library (e.g. GoldenEye 007), licenses and even the fact Super Mario 64 has only recently been released as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection.
While the informant is confident that N64 will appear on the NSO, he is not so sure of the date of his arrival:
“It would give a very realistic probability of it happening in the current exercise … but that is an assumption. I mean this is a guess, but you know, we’ll find out as we said: September is the month of revelations, the anniversary of the platform itself, so hopefully we have some news on Nintendo Switch Online this month , but there is no rule to come this month “.
