The Chicago Bears are not a franchise known for a great quarterback game, not even a solid one. So when it’s rumored that one of the NFL’s star quarterbacks would consider a trade in Chicago (even if it’s not likely to happen), it’s an exciting thought.
While Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has not formally requested a trade, that hasn’t stopped speculation from unfolding. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Wilson would happily “accept” a trade with the Bears.
“If the Bears came to an agreement with the Seahawks, Russell Wilson would happily accept his roles in the city of the wind,” Schefter told the Waddle and Silvy Show.
With general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy on the line in 2021, Chicago has been quite active in the quarterbacks market this offseason. Pace and Nagy are unlikely to invest their futures in Mitchell Trubisky or Nick Foles, so they have been involved in the quarterback discussion.
But with Matthew Stafford and Carson Wentz with new teams, the Bears run out of options on the quarterback. It doesn’t help that they have the eighth overall pick in the NFL draft, which doesn’t put them in a good position to get a top-tier quarterback.
While Chicago isn’t exactly the most appealing destination given the uncertain future of Pace and Nagy, they do have the appeal of a dominant defense and some young offensive players.
“(Wilson) has the Bears on his roster of teams he’d be willing to go to. I don’t know why,” Schefter said. “Obviously, he’s not happy with the line’s offensive protection in Seattle, he’s not happy with the way some of the things have been done there, but he’s open to going to Chicago.
“I didn’t help him make the list, so I can’t say why the Bears and other teams are involved. I just know they are. ”
No matter why Wilson has Chicago on their roster, all that matters is that they are one of the four teams on the roster. Now, Pace, make it happen.
