Ryan Fitzpatrick tested positive for COVID-19 and was left out against the Bills

The veteran Dolphins quarterback may not be available to play the key game of Week 17

The Miami Dolphins quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, pitched positive for COVID-19 and will not be available for the final game of the regular season Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, Confirmed a source in ESPN this Thursday.

Fitzpatrick participated in practice on Thursday and the Miami Herald reports that the veteran quarterback tested positive at some point after practice..

The Dolphins, according to reports, are conducting contact tracking to determine the risk of close contact from their quarterbacks, including head coach Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa participated in the practice this Thursday, however it’s unclear when the Dolphins began tracking their field marshals ’contacts. The rookie had problems in Week 16 against the Las Vegas Raiders and was replaced by Fitzpatrick, who led the Dolphins ’comeback for a last-second win and helped keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Dolphins signed free agent quarterback Jake Rudock on Thursday, according to quarterback Mike McCartney’s agent.

The NFL Network was the first media outlet to report on the Fitzpatrick positive this Thursday.

Miami would tie a wildcard spot at the American Conference with a win over Buffalo. Dolphins head coach Brian Flors previously announced that Tagovailoa would start the game and compared Fitzpatrick to a relief pitcher in baseball.

Fitzpatrick, 38, is a 4-3 starter this season, pitching for 2,091 yards with 13 touchdowns — eight interceptions.
