Sakurai targets a large volume of sword fighters in Smash (again), reminds fans that this is not his call

Later today Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai will show off the new DLC fighters. This time, it’s Pyra and Mythra Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and are another group of sword users.

In the run-up to this broadcast, Sakurai appeared in the last episode of Washa Live and took the opportunity to remind everyone that the decision to add sword fighters does not depend on him. Here’s what I had to say, courtesy of a Nintendo Everything translation:

“Sword fighters …? Hey, that’s what it is! … Like it or not, it’s not up to me if another sword fighter comes into play.”

“Even if it’s another sword fighter, it’ll be fine as long as we balance them properly … And instead [to fighters like Steve] sword fighters are easy [to implement]. “

Who is calling then? Sakurai delved into this last February, explaining how his own “preferences” do not play a role in the fighter selection process and noted how Nintendo had a “bigger” view in decision-making:

“My preferences do not play a role in adding new fighters; Nintendo has a broader voice in this decision and brings its thoughts to the table … The fighters we will include in Smash Bros. they usually come from series that have history. For example, Dragon Quest“Hero”, “Banjo & Kazooie” i Fatal FuryTerry Bogard first appeared about 20 or 30 years ago: I want to include a wide range of characters. “

In his last chat about the combat selection process, he also warned everyone that he might have trouble saying too much:

“I’m sure if I go a little further, I’ll get something from Nintendo …”

The next Smash Bros. presentation will take place again today (14:00 GMT / 15:00 CET / 6:00 PT / 9:00 ET). It will last approximately 35 minutes and will show an in-depth look at the new fighter two in one. Nintendo unveiled version 11.0.0 of Super Smash Bros. yesterday. Ultimate that would also arrive soon.
