Samsung has launched “iTest,” an interactive web experience designed to allow iPhone users to try Android on a Galaxy device or “try the other side,” Samsung says.
According to, the iTest website is advertised in New Zealand MacRumors reader who found the feature. Visiting the iTest website from an Piphone asks users to install a web application on the home screen.
From there, tapping the app launches on a simulated Galaxy smartphone home screen with a range of apps and configuration options. You can open Galaxy Store, apply themes, and even access messages and apps on your phone.
You’ll receive simulated phone calls to learn about Galaxy’s features, as well as a series of messages, as well as a camera tutorial from plumber and photographer Logan Dodds that goes through all the available photography options.
There are several tips that appear while browsing the interface to inform you of all the inaccessible features, in addition to browsing the Galaxy Wearable app with all the Samsung accessories.
The Gallery app shows photos, there are tutorials for the Samsung Kids and Samsung Health apps, and the setup app lets you know some of the customization features available.
Samsung’s interactive experience is neat and some jokes are even added. When you go to the Settings app, for example, if you tap a setting, it explains that the experience has been simplified, “so our developer could have a break for lunch.”
While Samsung seems to be announcing this experience in New Zealand right now, anyone can try it. It’s a useful way to look at the features available on Galaxy devices if you don’t own them, and it’s arguably Samsung’s most ambitious effort to attract iPhone users.
