San Luis Obispo County reports 10 new deaths from COVID-19

San Luis Obispo County has reported 278 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 new deaths from the virus since Tuesday’s latest report.

Its most recent update came on Friday afternoon.

The ten people who died from the virus were between 40 and 90 years old, according to the county.

“This is extremely difficult news to share because behind these figures are friends, family and loved ones,” Dr. Penny Borenstein, a county health officer, said in a press release.

Since Tuesday’s update, they have registered 278 new cases of COVID, bringing the total number of cases this week to 623.

Health officials identified 47 positive cases on Wednesday and 145 on Thursday. Health officials had added 86 new cases on Friday afternoon.

There are currently 1,039 active cases of coronavirus across the county.

51 county residents are hospitalized with COVID and 17 are treated in the ICU.

Currently, 39% of the 38 licensed ICU beds and county staff are available.

As of June 15, 2021, non-vaccinated SLO County residents account for 76.9% of cases, 85.5% of hospitalizations, and 79.0% of deaths.

The current case rate in the county, which measures the number of COVID cases per 100,000 people, is 39.0. It decreased by 56.6, the highest in a year, recorded on 30 August.

The county has recorded a total of 26,766 cases of COVID since the start of the pandemic.

Free coronavirus tests are available to the public at the former Paso Robles train station and at the San Luis Obispo Veterans Hall. Both locations are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Click here to register for an appointment. Walk-in can also be accessed.

Local emergency care services also offer tests, although health officials urge people to call in advance for availability.
