Sandra Scully, the partner of iconic Los Angeles Dodgers announcer Vin Scully, has died at age 76 after battling Lou Gehrig’s illness.

Sandra died at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after a years-long battle with ALS.

“The family appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers; however, they are requesting their privacy at this time,” said a family representative. Donations should be forwarded to the UCLA Department of Neuromuscular Diseases. / ALS on behalf of Sandra.

The Cascade, Virginia, survived the 93-year-old Hall of Fame baseball commentator, with whom she was married for 48 years after marrying in November 1973.

The couple had a child together, Catherine, and were parents of five children from previous marriages, according to the AP. They have 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Vin told AP last summer of the battle for his wife’s health: “She’s really inspiring, her faith is extremely important and I think that’s one of the main reasons she’s put up with it.”

Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement, “We are saddened to learn of the passing of Sandi Scully, Vin’s loving wife and a beloved member of the Dodger family.

Scully retired after 67 years with the Dodgers in 2016.
