MUMBAI: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said on Sunday that his party will contest the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Goa early next year, and claimed that the farmers’ organizations of the west of the UP are willing to support their party.
Speaking to reporters here, Raut said Shiv Sena will run between 80 and 100 seats in UP (which has a 403-member assembly), while running for about 20 seats in the Goa assembly (which includes 40 seats).
“Western farmers’ organizations in the UP have expressed their willingness to support Shiv Sena and we can ally with smaller parties. In Goa, they are striving to explore a formula like MVA. Let’s see if we get it, ”Rajya Sabha member said.
Raut further said that Shiv Sena has his cadre in these two states and has been contesting elections, regardless of success or failure.
Following the 2019 Maharashtra assembly polls, Shiv Sena established links with the BJP’s long-term ally over the issue of sharing the post of chief minister and forged an alliance with the PCN and Congress to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state.
Asked about Vijay Rupani’s resignation as chief minister of Gujarat, Raut said, “It is an internal matter of the BJP, outsiders should not comment. I have known Rupani since he was a member of Rajya Sabha with me.” .
“Last time, the BJP only managed to surpass the majority mark (in the 182-member assembly in Gujarat). The situation this time is not good for the party,” he said.
Asked about the role of Maharashtra Prime Minister and Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray at the national level, Raut said, “Thackeray has the ability to become a national leader. A Maharashtra chief minister is a leader. national “.
