Santa Clara County has recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, as the state continues to resist due to a wave of vacations that does not yet appear to have peaked.

Although public health officials in the most populous county in the bay area recorded 2,212 new cases of the virus for a total of 63,302 cases, Alameda County, number two in terms of population, recorded the second number of cases since the start of the pandemic with 1,651 new cases for a total of 48,234.
Recent milestones serve as a reminder of the pandemic’s relentless attack on residents of the bay area, as shipments of the new vaccine are directed to the most affected hospitals.
These hospitals also face extreme situations and many of them report a low bed count in the ICU. Kaiser Permanent announced Saturday that it will postpone “elective, non-urgent surgeries and procedures” until Jan. 4 at its northern California hospitals as hospitalizations increase.

In Contra Costa County, officials reported 528 new coronavirus cases and there were no deaths out of a total of 38,138 cases and 321 deaths. Although no deaths were reported, county officials said 13 people died at Christmas.
In the four counties of North Bay, which includes Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Marin counties, officials reported 377 new cases of the virus and a new death. The area is soon approaching the milestone of 50,000 cases and has recorded 439 deaths.
San Francisco recorded 266 new cases and no new deaths for a total of 21,975 cases and 181 deaths. San Mateo County reported no new cases or deaths, and the count remains at 22,241 coronavirus cases and 212 virus-related deaths.
