Saquon Barkley away from Giants to practice in conjunction with Patriots

FOXBORO, Mass. – Saquon Barkley will not be on the field on Wednesday when the Giants begin two days of joint practice with the Patriots. Barkley was excused for attending to personal matters and is expected to return to practice Thursday morning.

Barkley did not travel with the team when he left on Tuesday.

Still limited as he continues to increase his football activities after surgery to repair a broken ACL, Barkley has been kept so far from all 11-11 exercises. He did not participate in any live drills last week when the Giants went practice for two days with the Browns in Berea, Ohio.

I was going to see more action on this trip, working on individual exercises and possibly some 7-on-7 exercises with the Patriots defense on the field. Now we will have to wait a day.

Barkley will have to make the trip alone to join his teammates. This absence is not expected to remove Barkley and he still has a chance to be ready to play the first game of the September 12 season against the Broncos at MetLife Stadium.
