Yahoo Sports’ Pete Tamel says Sarah Fuller’s career as a college footballer has come to an end.
For the past two weeks Fuller has worked as a footballer for Vanderbilt. He kicked against Missouri on Nov. 28 and transferred an extra point to Tennessee on December 12. But Fuller will not be on the field on Saturday as Commodores’ regular season final against Georgia has been canceled.
“It looks like my time as a footballer is over,” Fuller said In a statement on Monday. “I would like to personally thank the entire Vanderbilt football team, coaches and support staff for this wonderful opportunity to be a part of this project.”
“I have been accepted as an athlete and a true member of this team. It will be an experience I will never forget and will never be forgotten. Congratulations to the seniors and staff on their new adventures. Congratulations to the team. This project is moving forward and continues to grow.”
Fuller will be in Vanderbilt through the spring semester as he plays as a school goalie in the NCAA tournament. Fuller then plans to move to North Texas, where he will play football for two more years. For Tamil, she has no plans to pursue her football career with Fish Green.
“We looked with admiration and great respect at how Sarah handled herself in making history at Vanderbilt,” North Texas Director of Athletics Ren Baker told Tamil. “We look forward to welcoming her to the average Green family and expanding her base. I know she’s a role model for a lot of people in the country, especially young female athletes.”
Fuller became the first woman to score a goal in a Power 5 football game on Saturday. After appearing for Vanderbilt vs Missouri on November 30, he was selected as the SEC Special Team Player of the Week.
