You may remember in September, we celebrated the first Nintendo Life Indie Spotlight forever, announcing new games coming to Switch. Among this training was Cathedral, a promising 2D retro-style Metroidvania from Decemberborn Interactive, reminiscent of Pala Cavaller. After launching on PC in 2019, it will now hit Switch next week on February 18th.
Inside the Cathedral, we will play an amnesiac heroic knight, who will wake us up in a different world with no memories of how they ended up here. Exploring a non-linear fortress, you have been tasked with finding five legendary elemental orbs, placed under the protection of five guardians by a powerful demigod.
Speaking of the upcoming version of Switch, Eric Lavesson of Decemberborn Interactive confirmed:
We’re just a week away from the release and can’t wait to see what Nintendo gamers think of this epic and extensive metroidvania love letter. With over 600 rooms to explore through its huge interconnected world map, Cathedral presents an 8-bit audiovisual party created with contemporary metroidvania game design principles. Cathedral a wide map is completely handmade with meticulous pixel art details, packed to the brim with all sorts of locations, secrets, puzzles, objects and special challenges.
The use of the practical map function is essential for players who want to discover all the mysteries of this game. Get ready for a noble and fun adventure that will challenge and entertain for hours.
