“I even asked them at the hospital if I would shave all my hair. I could prepare to do it if I had made a difference.

“But the dye had already absorbed into my scalp, so there was nothing to do but wait for the swelling and blisters to go down.

“I definitely never have my hair dye again; I’ll let it grow and then I’ll let it go.”

Leonie said she used to dye her hair regularly when she was a teenager, but after having children (now 11, 10, three and six months old), she found that “she couldn’t be bothered” and that she hadn’t dyed her for seven years.

On this occasion, she “imagined a change,” saying she was “really religious” in reading the box brochure and doing the patch test.

There was no problem with the patch test, so I went ahead and dyed the bottom half hair purple.

“That went well, “she said.

“Then I gave it a couple of days before I did the blue hair dye on the top half of my head at 5.30pm on Thursday.
