Selaco is an awesome new FPS that uses Doom Tech

Doom it changed everything in 1993 and the technology behind it Doom it would continue to generate countless modifications, fan games and complete commercial releases. However, as always, time moves on and what was avant-garde becomes yesterday’s news. Still, right now, in 2021, a small group of developers are struggling in a new game, postage stamp, using the old bones of Doom. The end result is so impressive that it’s wild to know that it’s based on the original technology of the 90s.

You will take on the role of a character named Dawn as he fights a deadly invasion of Selaco, an underground facility where surviving refugees live after the fall of Earth. While trying to fight the invading army of soldiers, Dawn will also explore the facility and discover its secret history. Along the way, Dawn will be able to use various weapons, including ice grenades, assault rifles, shotguns, SMG and even nails.

postage stamp is being developed by Altered Orbit Studios, a small team of developers who use GZDoom to create their first major commercial game. GZDoom is a source port for Doom which is based on ZDoom, another previous source port that is no longer being developed. Because it is a source port, GZDoom is like the original Doom engine, but adapted and able to make more complex visuals, support more sophisticated maps and include other modern functions. But at its core, GZDoom is still based Doom, with many of the limitations that this entails.

Still, watching a game trailer recently released for postage stamp, you will have trouble detecting these limits. In images posted a few weeks ago during the FPS Realms Deep-focused gaming event, postage stamp is a mixture of Doom (as would be expected) i POR. Enemies a postage stamp they are much smarter than anything you found in the old days Doom games. They can react and change their plans quickly while the player fights them. Here, enemies will flank or fall backwards. Compared to the simple demons of Doom, are awesome things.

postage stamp it will also feature 3D details with voxel technology, destructible environments, objects that use physics, advanced lighting, and full-voice characters. One of these is The Juggernaut, a great enemy that surprises players and breaks down walls, almost like a science fiction version of Resident Evil 2 ‘s Mr. X. And remember, all of this is done through a source port of a game released in 1993.

Retro handles to own it has become quite popular in recent years, so you may not forget Selaco as another of those old school FPS games. But postage stamp it looks different. It feels less like a game trying to recapture the nostalgic feeling of playing old school shooters Earthquake or Doom, and is using these old games as tools to build something more modern.

Until the game is released and we can play it in full, we won’t know for sure if postage stampThe developers have really been successful. But I’m very optimistic, based on trailers, screenshots, gifs and videos posted in the game official Twitter account. On its Steam page, the developers joke listed on August 25, 2255 as a release date. I really don’t want to wait that long to play this shooter, although it looks good enough that I will if I need it.
