Select Walgreens to start administering COVID-19 :: WRAL.com vaccines

Walgreens will begin administering coronavirus vaccines at 300 locations in North Carolina.

As of Feb. 12, more than 31,000 doses of vaccine will be administered to those eligible.

Walgreens was selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide vaccines to 15 states and jurisdictions as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.

The CDC chose states and jurisdictions for the program to help increase access to vaccines in low-care medical areas and areas with a high social vulnerability score, which are the possible negative effects on communities caused by external stress on human health. The CDC will assign a certain amount of vaccines to Walgreens at each site.

“Walgreens was one of the first pharmacies to start administering COVID-19 vaccines in December to staff and residents of long-term care facilities and we look forward to leveraging our experience to support the federal government and CDC in expanding access to these vaccines. ” John Standley, president of Walgreens, said in a statement.

Once vaccination appointments are available, people should go to the Walgreens website to schedule them. Walk-in will not be accepted.
