Martín Lasarte is the new coach of the Chilean national team for the Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, the Chilean Football Federation reported on Wednesday.

“Lasarte takes command of La Roja to face the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers, the Copa America Argentina – Colombia 2021, and all the challenges of the national team. The agreement with the coach will be extended immediately in case of obtaining the classification in the World Cup, “the agency said through its communications management.

Lasarte will have his first home games against Paraguay on March 25 and five days after visiting Ecuador. Chile currently ranks sixth in the South American standings with four points in four games.

The 59-year-old Uruguayan has extensive experience in Chilean football as he coached at the University of Chile and the Catholic University between 2012 and 2015. He also coached at the Royal Society of Spain, at the National of Uruguay, A Wasl of the United Arab Emirates and the Al-Ahly of Egypt.
