Selena Gomez returns to the small screen for the first time since she played Alex Russo in Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, with a role in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building starring Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Recently, the 29-year-old actress joked that she “signed my life at Disney at a very young age, so I didn’t know exactly what I was doing” in an interview to promote the Hulu series, which debuted on August 29th.
During another interview for the show with Radio Times, she clarified that she was joking and that she is “beyond proud” of what she did at Disney.

While Wizards of Waverly Place was instrumental in launching his career, he easily switched to film and music.
Only Murders in the Building is his first television series since Wizards of Waverly Place aired in 2012, although he made it clear that he was looking to return to television during the interview.
When asked if he was at all reluctant to return to the small screen, Gomez said, “No, definitely not.” He was looking for another show to do, “before clarifying his first comments about working at Disney.

He conducted the interview with his co-star Steve Martin, The Only Murders in the Building, by his side, who clarified that he was clearly joking when he made the original comment.
“I have to jump because I was there when Selena said that [at the TCA] and it was said in the most cheerful, funny, and joking way, ”Martin said.

Gomez first starred in Disney Channel’s Suite Life of Zack and Cody and had a recurring role in Hannah Montana before getting the role of Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place at just 15 years old.

Alex: Gomez starred for the first time in Disney Channel’s Suite Life of Zack and Cody and had a recurring role in Hannah Montana before getting the role of Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place at just 15 years old.
The show, which followed Alex Russo and his family who run a restaurant but are also all secret wizards, ran for four seasons between 2007 and 2010.
She added that she was “very lucky” while praising her parents for keeping her safe early in her career.
“As a woman in my position, I was cared for and I have only had precious experiences, so I am grateful for that,” Gomez said.
