HOW DID SELENA AND CHRIS PÉREZ MEET?

The guitarist and composer with Mexican roots Chris Perez met the singer when he joined the family band “Selena and the Tell Us”. In 1989, he had been contacted by the girl’s father and brother to join the group.

According to the musician, in his book “To Selena, With Love” (“To Selena, with love”, in Spanish), the personalities of both were totally different, since while he was introverted, the young person who robbed to him the sigh from the first moment had a very extroverted personality.

As soon as they started working together, the mutual attraction was immediate, all to which he had a girlfriend. According to Pérez, the relationship between the two occurred more smoothly when the group traveled to Acapulco. Then he confessed his feelings to her and they decided to start a secret romance from the artist’s father.

SELENA’S FATHER finds out about ROMANCE

Although the two decided to hide the romance for fear of being separated, Suzette Quintanilla, sister of the Queen of the Tex-Mex, alerted her father about what was happening. Besides, he himself had noticed of his daughter’s relationship while driving ‘The Big Bertha’. That day, he stopped his car and asked him to leave.

“I saw him as a threat. What would happen if they got married and he took her out of the band? All the work we’ve done all these years would go overboard.”, Said Abraham of Chris a Texas Monthly years ago.

Pérez had no choice but to go home, while the performer of “Bidi bidi bom bom” reached fame.

SELENA IS LOOKING FOR CHRIS

After Chris Perez’s dismissal from the group, Selena felt her life collapse and didn’t want to end up away from the person she loved; so he looked for it in 1992.

She showed up at the door where the guitarist lived and demanded to see him. After holding a dialogue, she told him she couldn’t live without him, but she wanted to be by his side, even though her father didn’t approve of the relationship.

They decide to run away AND MARRY

Due to the complication of his romance, which was not accepted by the artist’s parent, they decided to escape and then get married. “I was thinking, ‘My God, we’re doing this. My God, what are we doing? My God!’ The next thing I knew was that it was over and we had been declared husband and wife.”, Said Pérez.

They secretly got married in early April 1992. Although Selena wanted a big wedding, they did an express ceremony at Nous County Courthouse. She was 20 and he was 22.

The media announced the marriage and Abraham Quintanilla had no choice but to accept it as his son-in-law. The couple moved into a house next to the rest of the Quintanilla family.

MARRIAGE LIFE

While Selena and Chris Perez were completely in love, the fact that they worked together and saw each other 24 hours a day made them have some discussions. Luckily, they knew how to deal with these difficulties and talked about having a baby.

Unfortunately, the singer ceased to exist after the president of her fan club shot her when she was discovered for embezzlement.

WHAT HAPPENED TO CHRIS PEREZ AFTER SELENA’S DEATH?

In 2001, Pérez married Vanessa Villanueva, with whom he had two children. The relationship did not work and she divorced in 2008, the year she has not known a partner.

Through his posts on his social media, Chris has made it clear that he never forgot the “Bidi bidi bom bom” performer, whom he continues to love.
