The Senate suspended today, Tuesday, the appointment of Jesús González Creu as the interim secretary of the Department of Education.
Senate Resolution 167, now passed, recommends that, given that Gonzalez Cruz has not held an educational position in his career, he should not take the reins of the agency.
We recommend:
“Given that the nominee to lead the Department of Education does not have in its resume actions or projects aimed at or oriented to the education of the country, the Senate of Puerto Rico recommends the rejection of the graduate Jesús González Cruz” , reads the legislation at the conclusion of the explanatory memorandum.
The rejection of his appointment comes days after Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia Urrutia withdrew the appointment of Elba Aponte Santos to head the agency, after the Appointments Commission of the said body recommended on Saturday not to approve the official for the post.
Once he appointed to his appointment to the interim of the prefecture of the agency, the senatorial president, José Luis Dalmau Santiago, He assured that, at the disposal of articles 172 and 173 of the Political Code, the appointment for an interim in any agency must go through the endorsement of the Senate.
The approval of the measure, which was given by word of mouth, had the delegation of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), the Moviment Victòria Ciutadana (MVC) party and the senator of the Partido Independentista Puerto Rico (PIP) , Maria de Lourdes Santiago Negrón.
“In the Department of Education there are a lot of professionals … of so many people with experience, with a doctorate and a director’s license, the governor has not identified a single resource that meets the basic requirements that the school community demands of the Country “, expressed Dalmau Santiago during his turn of debate.
“We give advice to the governor to identify a professional in the education area who has the credentials,” he added.
Meanwhile, the delegation of the New Progressive Party (PNP) agreed with the appointment.
