Serena Williams has shown no signs of a shoulder injury as she enters the second round of the Australian Open with an impressive win over German Laura Siegemund.

Wearing a brightly colored one-legged cat suit at the Rod Laver Arena, the seventh champion lost the opening game, but swept Siegemund 6-1 6-1 in less than an hour.

The 39-year-old, ranked 10th, had withdrawn from the tournament semi-final against Ash Barty, who cited the injury but did not appear hampered in the unilateral affair.

Pursuing his 24th Grand Slam title, Williams will face Nina Stojanovic, 99th in the Serbian world.

Williams included 16 winners among Siegemund’s four, with the world number 49 unable to find any way to stop the attack.

The attractive dress caused a great stir on social media, with tennis fans divided in the bold choice.

“Serena Williams casually unveiled a one-legged monkey,” one tennis fan wrote.

“Even though all the other suckers wear the same Nike uniform, Serena is made to measure,” added another.

“I love this dress. It definitely returns to its peak fitness,” wrote a third.

Others were not so sure of the suit.

“Good job they pay her well, that’s atrocious,” one Twitter user commented.

“This sounds crazy uncomfortable, especially because of the heat in Melbourne,” shared another.

“That was a good start, vintage“ Rena, ”Williams said in the post-match interview.

“I think I’m good enough to walk in front of a big shawl.”

The American was eager to get off the court to grab the Super Bowl final and see legendary Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady, 43, in action.

“I’m American and we love the Super Bowl and Tom Brady is from my age group, so it’s exciting,” he said.

“It’s amazing: competing … at 43 is unheard of and it’s super inspiring for me at my mature age of 30.”
