Seth Meyers went after President Joe Biden Monday night pretty hard, but not for the reasons Fox News would have wanted.
Instead, the Well into the night the host criticized Biden for participating in what he considers a “useless and absurd exercise” in “pleasing” Republican demands for “bipartisanship” when it comes to relieving COVID. “Just the fact that he’s willing to sit and listen to you is more than you deserve,” Meyers told Republican Party senators directly who want to reduce the aid package.
Comparing Biden to the neighbor who will continue to throw back the frisbee that lands in his garden even after the kids throw a failed dog poop at it, he asked, “Seriously Joe, why do you take anything Susan Collins says seriously? “Send people the checks. Nobody cares if they are moderately disappointed with the process.”
And then, pointing to the way Republicans used this same process of budget reconciliation to drive corporate tax cuts, he said, “Nothing they say about commitment and bipartisanship should be taken seriously. They have been doing this same scam for years ”.
“You know how I know?” Meyers asked. “Because Democrats have fallen in love with this trap many times, including a determined vice president in 2012.” With that, Biden’s clip was played predicting that the Republican “fever” would break after President Obama was re-elected. “Not only did the fever not break out, but it got worse,” he added. “Probably thanks to this secret Jewish space laser that COVID invented and hacked the election along with Bill Gates and Hugo Chavez!”
“Republicans will not suddenly become reasonable,” he continued, urging Biden to take a cue from his former Democratic opponent Bernie Sanders and “put aside” the “bad faith of Republicans complaining about bipartisanship.”
