Nearly a dozen migrant women with newborns in the past year have been returned to Mexican border cities without birth certificates for their U.S.-born children, according to the findings of an investigation released Friday by the Fuller Project and The Guardian.

The order states that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials can force migrants into the U.S. border illegally without giving them the opportunity to seek asylum or protection.
Friday’s investigation, which included multiple conversations with immigration lawyers, hospital records and legal documents, found that since the policy was implemented, at least 11 migrant women have been sent by CBP officials to Mexican cities just days after give birth in the US
A 23-year-old woman from Haiti was nine months pregnant when she arrived in the United States in July. Border patrol officials took her to a California hospital when her water broke.
According to The Guardian, she was taken back to Mexico when she was discharged from the hospital, without the birth certificate of her newborn daughter.
The incident marked just one of nearly 200,000 Title 42 expulsions recorded by CBP fiscal year 2020.
A CBP spokesman told Fuller Project and The Guardian that the agency does not specifically track the number of women with babies of U.S. citizens who have been deported under Title 42.
“Under the policy, CBP does not comment on individual cases for privacy reasons,” the spokesman said, adding, “Hospitals are responsible for providing birth certificates and CBP does not prevent people, regardless of state. of immigration, acquire birth certificates for U.S. citizens children ”.
CBP’s press office did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
President Biden on a Tuesday executive order committed CDC and the Department of Homeland Security to “quickly review” Title 42, along with other policies of the Trump administration that sought to curb immigration.
