One person died and several people were injured after a suspect was ransacked in a Canadian library.
A suspect has been arrested in connection with the lone wolf attack on Saturday afternoon in northern Vancouver, officials tweeted.
The violence occurred at and around the Lynn Valley Library branch, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Six people were taken to hospital, emergency workers told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. According to reports, their conditions are unclear.
A man working on a bench across the street from the library told the dam that he witnessed the attacker’s attack after he was possibly shot with rubber bullets by police.
“The response from the police was tremendous,” Justin Prasad said, according to CBC. “I’ve never seen so many cops in one area.”
Rylan Harvey was eating and shopping nearby, when he saw the wounded being carried to the bunks.
“I hope the victims are okay,” he told CBC. “I’m very sad that this has happened in our community.”
He called North Vancouver a “quiet, idyllic place,” where violence is rare.
“People seem to be generally impacted,” Harvey told CBC. “How the hell can this happen in North Van? I grew up five minutes from here. ”
Police are still searching for witnesses to the stabbing attack.
