AP PHOTOS: A severe climate arrives in Europe, but it also brings fun
LONDON (AP) – Severe weather in Europe, ranging from floods in France to heavy snow in Germany, has caused disruptions and damage, but also magnificent backdrops to contemplate or play in.
Floodwaters devastated many vineyards and orchards in southwestern France, while the Seine River overflowed its banks for the fifth day in a row in Paris.
In Britain, heavy snow is forecast for the next few days and there will be a disruption in the south-east of England as very cold winds take over much of the nation. Some areas of the UK accumulated accumulations on Sunday.
A snowstorm and strong winds ravaged northern and western Germany, forcing trains to cancel trips and causing hundreds of vehicle accidents. Police said more than two dozen people were injured on icy roads.
But the storms have also brought picturesque scenes, with people enjoying the day as the Sahara sand colors the snow near Altenberg, Germany. And a pony was walking alongside Millhouse Green in the north-east of England, while a horse-drawn carriage roamed the German city during a storm.
A man used a surfboard to sled down a snow-covered hill in the Wye National Nature Reserve near Ashford in the south of England.
The weather will remain cold in the coming days across the continent. Temperatures dropped to -21 C (-5.8 F) on Sunday in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius.
