A shark fatally killed a surfer on the east coast of Australia on Sunday, while many locals went to the beaches to celebrate Father’s Day.
Surf teammates, assistants and paramedics performed CPR on the man, but he had a critical arm wound and was unable to revive, New South Wales Ambulance said official Chris Wilson.
“It was incredibly devastating for everyone involved on the beach today,” Wilson said.
The attack took place on Shelly and Emerald beaches in Coffs Harbor, about 330 miles north of Sydney.

Witness Aaron Armstrong said Emerald Beach was very popular and many locals were on the water enjoying and celebrating Father’s Day. “Yeah, it’s going to change the fabric a little bit for a while at EB, that’s for sure,” Armstrong told Australian Broadcasting Corp.
He said it was the first shark attack on the community that he and other residents knew about.
The state of New South Wales is blocked by coronavirus, but people can leave home to exercise, including swimming. People from the same family can go to the beach on Father’s Day.
Before Sunday, the most recent deadly shark attack in Australia it was in May off the coast of Forster, 137 miles north of Sydney.
Last year, eight fatalities were reported in shark attacks The highest in Australia since 1929, when they died again. The introduction of shark nets to the popular beaches of the 1930s caused a major drop in deadly attacks.
