The classification is made by the prestigious magazine Newsweek. Tel Aviv’s Sourasky Medical Center, better known as Ichilov Hospital, is in the top 200.

Sheba is not only the best-rated hospital in Israel, it also tops the list throughout the Middle East. Prof. Arnon Afek, deputy general manager of Sheba Medical Center and acting director of Sheba General Hospital, remarked that “we are always trying to find something new, something we can add.” In a publication made by the institution on its website, innovation and globalization stand out as two of the key axes for having achieved the high rating in the international ranking.
The list is made up of 2,000 hospitals located in 25 countries. The only Latin Americans evaluated were Brazil and Mexico. Also participating were hospitals from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada, among others, as well as Israel. Countries were selected primarily based on standard of living and life expectancy. In addition, the size of the population and the number of hospitals were taken into account. Likewise, the availability of access to the data was also key in the process. According to Newsweek, “they stand out for their consistent excellence, with distinguished doctors, first-class nursing and cutting-edge technology.”
Also, in the presentation of the ranking, the magazine stated that the events of 2020 “made it clear that our lives and those of our loved ones may depend on the type of medical care we have access “.
