Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster will be released in North America this spring, developer Atlus announced today. It will be available on May 25 for PlayStation 4, Switch and Steam, almost seven months after its release in Japan. Those who purchase the Digital Deluxe edition will be able to play four days in advance on May 21st.

The classic cult PlayStation 2 role-playing game follows a normal Japanese high school student as he suddenly sinks into a war between heaven and hell in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. Like the most popular Atlus person series, the battles revolve around making friends, raising, and ultimately merging a litany of demons composed of mythological figures from history and folklore. Think American gods but with very little sentimentality from Neil Gaiman.

Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster updates the 17-year-old game with remastered 3D models and backgrounds, as well as introducing new difficulty settings to make things harder or easier, depending on your own inclinations. Following in the footsteps of the revisions of the original “Director’s Cut” and “Maniax Chronicle”, Dante de la the devil can cry series i Summoner of the devilRaidou Kuzunoha will make appearances, the first in the main game and the second through downloadable content.

Unlike person, whose recent games usually favor the game of social interaction over dungeon tracking Shin Megami Tensei games are known to offer a healthy challenge to even the most demanding minimums. That said, the style and ambiance are worth more than a little frustration. As a single player from the original, I can’t wait to get back into the skin of the Demi-fiend.
