Peter King made me think.
In his latest article, he proposed an absurd seven-for-one trade between the 49ers and the Houston Texans, in which the San Francisco 49ers would send Fred Warner, Mike McGlinchey, Jimmy Garoppolo, a first-round pick in 2021, a first round election in 2022, a second round in 2021 and a third round in 2022 in Houston by Deshaun Watson.
Why is this hypothetical trade absurd? Because jeans would never accept it. It is not enough. It’s basically two first-round picks and Warner, which is worth doing a first-round pick, and then a couple of second-round picks, and then Garoppolo and McGlinchey.
Perhaps the Texans would take Garoppolo on the deal as a short-term bridge replacement for Watson. But why would they want McGlinchey? It’s not good and it’s not worth much. Maybe a fifth round selection. It just doesn’t move the needle in this trade. It’s a release. Literally the least valuable of the seven assets.
So King tried. Give him credit. He even told McGlinchey a cornerstone player, who is rich.
What if we replaced McGlinchey in the hypothetical trade with another old first team that still has value?
I’m talking about Javon Kinlaw.
Kinlaw was the 14th pick in last year’s draft. Many teams gave him first-round scores, so many teams would still like him, even though he didn’t produce during his rookie season. Teams will say he was just a rookie, he had no OTA or minicamp, and he still has potential.
Unlike McGlinchey, a well-known bust.
Jeans are likely to wait until after June 1 to change Watson, so they can save $ 15 million on cap. That is, it is still possible for Watson to reach the 49ers. Perhaps the Texans would be interested in a trade package that includes Kinlaw – they certainly need a defensive attack to replace JJ Watt.
Something to think about.
