Two Illinois brothers were arrested after admitting that the bodies of their mother and sister had been buried for years in the backyard of their dirty house of horrors.
One brother cited “financial reasons” for burying the bodies in Lyons’ house, which was full of feces and urine containers, and so much clutter that the brothers had to use a window to get in and out, according to reports.
Police arrested Michael and John Lelko after discovering containers buried in the back garden that were believed to contain the remains.
The excavations began at home after the brothers, aged 45 and 41 and living in “deplorable” conditions, showed police the exact location where the bodies were buried, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
One of the children told police that his sister, who was suffering from mental illness, pushed his 72-year-old mother up the stairs in 2015. She suffered a head injury and said she would be fine, but died days later , according to the brother. , according to The Sun Times.

Four years later, in 2019, they buried her sister’s body in the yard, police said.
“They were pretty detailed about what they did to the bodies, how they packed them and how they put the bodies on the ground,” Lyons police chief Tom Herion told the newspaper.
Police were originally sent home after the mother and sister had not been seen for years and the water had not been used for years.
Herion said the house was full of garbage, containers of human feces and urine, while neighbors said the garden was covered and neglected. Herion called it a “very sad situation.”

The brothers were sitting in the lawn chairs of the property during the excavation when they were handcuffed by law enforcement, the Sun Times reported.
The brothers have not yet been formally charged. Hiding a death would be a felony charge, according to the report.
Herion told The Sun Times that he believed the brothers advanced on the burial of their family members because they “discovered that this house was going to be condemned” and “wanted to move forward.”
Neighbors described the siblings as “antisocial,” and reportedly underwent physical and mental medical evaluation prior to their arrest.
