A few days before his long-awaited Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings hit theaters, Simu Liu opens up about the tweet that may have started it all.
Liu, 32, was best known for his small-screen roles, such as the Canadian series Kim’s Convenience and NBC’s Taken, before he landed the lead role in this Marvel superhero adventure.
With the film hit theaters on Friday, Liu also talked about a tweet he sent to Marvel in 2018 in an interview with USA Today, which may or may not have resulted in his casting.

In December 2018, Marvel had hired Dave Callaham (The Expendables) to write the script with the studio quickly following development.
Apparently, Liu responded to the news in his own way, addressing his Twitter, where he had “like 500 followers” and essentially telling Marvel that he was interested in the role.
“Okay @Marvel, we’ll talk or what,” he said, adding the hashtag #ShangChi to his tweet.

“I just posted it on the air because I love superhero movies,” Liu said in the interview.
“It’s great that I now have all the credit retroactively for doing well, but I’m sure there are thousands of tweets if you go far enough away from not doing well or predicting the future in a totally wrong way,” he added. . .
Destin director Daniel Cretton was hired to take over the helm of Shang-Chi in March 2019.
