San Luis Obispo County added 151 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, adding the county total to 18,038 confirmed cases on Feb. 2.
The number of COVID-19-related deaths in the county increased in one case to a total of 178 deaths.
Health officials say there are currently 51 people hospitalized. Another 1,105 people are recovering at home and health officials say 16,673 people have recovered.
San Luis Obispo County reports that 19 of the 38 licensed ICU beds and county staff are currently occupied. Eleven of them are taken by COVID-19 patients.
Updated reopening metrics were also released on Tuesday and San Luis Obispo County remains solid at the purple level.
While the county meets the positivity rates needed to move to the next level, the county’s adjusted case rate only improved slightly to 22.6 from the previous week’s 23.8, still well above 7%. necessary to move to the red level.
To move to the next level, the county must remain at the purple level for at least three weeks and meet the adjusted case rate and state positivity criteria.

The location of an additional 68 cases is being investigated and another six are shown as “other,” which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Department of Public Health does not identify these locations.
Currently, community COVID-19 test sites are open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
