Even Smokey Robinson learns something new every day.
The 80-year-old Motown legend was recently commissioned to send a holiday message to a former neighbor and mispronounced the word “Chanukah.”
“Chanukah” is a more traditional spelling of the Hanukkah festival. The two words are pronounced the same.
The “Tracks of My Tears” singer was commissioned through the site to share Cameo videos by an individual named Jeff and his brother to send a message from Hanukkah to his mother, Margo, who grew up next to Robinson.

“Hey, Margo, how are you? Surprise, surprise,” Robinson said. “It’s Smokey Robinson. I know you didn’t expect to hear from me, but your kids put me in touch … they told me you used to live in Detroit across the street, and hey, it’s beautiful. “
Robinson said Margo now lives in Vancouver.
It continued: “[Your sons] I wanted to wish you “Happy Chanukah” “

Instead of pronouncing the word correctly, the singer erroneously said “chuh-noo-kuh.”
However, the error kept running, while Robinson continued, mispronouncing the word every time.
“I have no idea what Chanukah is, but Happy Chanukah because they said so,” he said in the clip. “God bless you anyway, girl, and enjoy Chanukah. Have a great time.”
Although the tweet quickly went viral, Jeff seemed fearless.

“By the way, @smokeyrobinson can pronounce it the way he likes it best. It’s a true legend whose music has been with me since birth.” commented on his original post. “Her kindness and generosity of spirit have already made this most unusual 2020 ukanucan one of the most memorable in my family. Plus, my mom says hello.”
Shortly afterwards, Robinson realized his mistake and commented on the video.
“In the spirit of 2020, I will need a review.” He wrote. “Please tell me your mom’s phone number so I can try again.”
The singer followed another video shared by Jeff with his mother chatting with the legend on the phone.
