Update: Last month, SNK vs. Capcom: Millennium Party was qualified for the Switch by the South Korean scoreboard.
It was only a matter of time until the match was over officially confirmed, and it seems that today is that day. SNK has just announced that the Neo Geo Pocket Color version of the popular wrestling crossover will arrive at the Switch eShop on February 17th.
This 1999 version starts with 18 fighters to choose from, and there are eight additional characters to unlock. As for fashions, there is unique battle, etiquette and equipment.
You’ll also be able to “play battles in VS mode and exchange various data” and in addition, there’s a “new” Olympic SC mode in which you can strive to break all records.
Will you join the fight when this pocket version of SNK against Capcom arrives at Switch eShop? Tell us below.
Original story [Fri 22nd Jan, 2021 10:00 GMT]: In the 90s, the sheer notion that Capcom and SNK were working together was so unlikely that Sega and Nintendo would lay down their arms and make friends (that would happen someday, right ?!). So when these two big fighting games announced a series of crossover games at the end of the decade, it caused quite a stir.
We have Capcom Vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 on the Dreamcast, next door SNK vs. Capcom: The Card Fighter Clash to Neo Geo Pocket Color. Along with that, we got it too SNK vs. Capcom: Millennium Match to the SNK handheld device, arguably one of the best individually portable fighters ever made. This collaboration would also give us Capcom Vs. SNK 2 on Dreamcast (later ported to PS2, GameCube and Xbox) and SNK vs. Capcom Choas to Neo Geo, in addition to the disappointing one SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS shortly after.
As the name of this sub-series suggests, each game featured characters from the respective franchises owned by these two Japanese giants. So the Street Fighter cast clashed with the stars of King of Fighters – that sort of thing. Match of the Millennium took things to the next level and even included characters like Arthur from Ghosts’ n Goblins in his own mini-game. Interestingly, the Neo Geo Pocket Color title could be connected to Capcom vs. Dreamcast. SNK using a special link cable, which will allow you to unlock characters by earning points when you play on the move.
According to the South Korean scoreboard, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium is heading to the Switch. The game has recently been rated for release in this region, a pretty solid indication that a game is coming in. Presumably, this will be part of SNK’s current unit to release several of its most notable Neo Geo Pocket Color titles on Switch; we already had one SNK Gals’ Fighters, Samurai Shodown II, The last leaf: beyond destiny i Fury’s first contact Fury.
What makes this new release remarkable is that it indicates that SNK and Capcom are willing to work together again. Although SNK developed and released this particular game, it contains Capcom’s IP address, so we would assume that a new agreement had to be signed for the reissue to take place.
We could potentially see other titles in the Capcom Vs. SNK launched on modern platforms? Or maybe both companies are working on a new crossover version?
Thanks to Greatsong for the advice.
