That’s how NBC variety show opened its show Saturday night, with cast member Kate McKinnon organizing a show that asked what still works in the United States. The first category was “government.”
“Our first issue is government and I already have my doubts,” McKinnon said.
Greene, played by Cecily Strong, came out and immediately offered McKinnon a gun.
“So Congresswoman Greene … it’s hard to say those words together,” McKinnon said. “What are some of the theories you believe in?”
Greene de Strong replied, “How long do you have?”
After hearing some of Greene’s theories, McKinnon asked him if he really believed these things and then asked him if he did. really a representative of the USA.
“Can people search you on Google and say you’re a real member of the U.S. government?” McKinnon asked again.
“It may not be the first to show up, but it is,” Greene de Strong replied.
Boner, played by Pete Davidson, corrected McKinnon by saying, “First, it’s pronounced ‘stonk’ market.”
McKinnon then asked Davidson’s Boner if the madness of the week reflected GameStop’s business.
“Uh, do we sell games?” Boner de Davidson asked.
McKinnon concluded that the stock market is not working either.
After going through topics like social media and the launch of the Covid-19 vaccine (which don’t work either, according to McKinnon), “SNL” finally found something that worked in the United States: Tom Brady.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, who is returning to the Super Bowl with his new team, appeared on the show played by this week’s host, John Krasinski.
“You’re supposed to win football games and you have to keep winning football games,” McKinnon said. “You could be the only one still working in America … So I guess everyone has to take root, right?”
“Hardly anyone,” Brady de Krasinski replied.
McKinnon said she would be rooting for him because the country can still trust him and “it’s not like you’re a weird Trump man or anything, right?”
Brady, of Krasinski, immediately thanked McKinnon for having him and left the stage.
McKinnon ended the segment by saying that he was slowly losing his mind and then dispensed with the catch phrase of the series, “Live … From New York! It’s Saturday night!”
